SRT and WebVTT: what this converter preserves

Both formats describe timed text, but their syntax and supported features differ.

SRT basics

An SRT cue normally has an index, a timing line with comma-separated milliseconds, and one or more lines of text.

WebVTT basics

A WebVTT file starts with WEBVTT and uses a dot before milliseconds. It can also contain styling, positioning, and metadata that SRT does not represent.

Know the conversion boundary

This tool preserves basic cue timing and text. It discards VTT styling, positioning, and metadata when converting to SRT, and does not burn subtitles into a video.
